"Mural "Motivation
Ive been thinking about creating a type of mural which is made up by a series of clamp shaped bracelets.
It is an idea which was inspired by a concept which would be part of a film.
I don't have time to execute this idea now, so i am looking at a way of executing this idea in a smaller and more refined way.
The idea partially emanated from a street art concept which would inevetiablly involve a collaboration, with a graffitti artist.
Im putting that off for the future.
The secondary idea came into fruition whilst listening to 3 ladies i know talking about this amazing day of female bonding. It dawned apoun me that often, jewelry is designed for the individual, or often for couples for traditional purposes.
But what about a collection of people who are united by one mindset?
What if a group of people, like a band, or a graffitti crew, with like minded interests could be united by one image, or an idea which brings them together, as a unified collective.
Pixels for example are parts which make up a picture, so if we look at video pixels which are rectangular, these elements could be seen as individual elements that make up a picture and each individual could be assigned to one pixel.
If a group of people all admired one painting, and there was no such thing as printed versions, then how could they all enjoy the aesthetic experience at the same time. What if they could wear an element of that picture?
Separated they are wearing an element of something that makes up one Picture, and that is what binds them as the crew that they are.
How could this be achieved? Well it possibly could work out, or it might end in total failure!
Technical Process
So this is what i am currently trying to achieve as a unified concept. Based on the design style of the cuff bracelet , i have worked out the technical aspects of these bracelets, using pieces of car cambelt as well as aluminium scrap.
I began by removing the teeth of the cambelts with a sharp knife. Its quite an art, some times the blade slips and you cut into the inner fabric, and then you have to start over.
Then using aluminium scrap from the scrap yard, i cut them to the width of the cambelt, and sanded off some of the paint.
I like working with found materials because it allows total freedom for experimentation. I also like the raw and gritty feel of the marred surfaces.
I then marked sections for a fold on each side which i bent over too meet the cambelt arch side.
The painted side panel is the individual unit. I have worked out the connecting technical aspects, but for now i just want to illustrate the concept of the "mural"
The series of side panels above illustrates the singular units making up one canvass which makes up the picture.
Im working on creating a composition of images which, will make up the image. Each bracelet then will become a singular element which is individually worn though when displayed together, make up one picture.
What a great idea!... How does this represent 'street' though? or should I rather say... What about it is representing 'street'? What does it have in common with, say, graffiti artists and their work?
