A friend Derek posted me a video called can love.
The video here http://vimeo.com/39646832
The video features the repurposing of aerosol cans for creating works of art.
discarded spray cans turned into works of art every can has a story, like every object has a story.
I felt connected to this process since i have recently experimented with the use of these discarded cultural elements in my own work.
In the past i have used them as elements to make display units as well as more recently used the side wall of the cans text for the production of belt buckles to raise questions about value.
Im stoked to see an Urban culture recognizing the value of their discarded mediums as valuable and precious materials.
A process that will no doubt evolve, into even greater ideas.
Some of the the works i have used using spray cans can be seen below.
Below i drilled through either side of the cans, as well as panels of wood which i then fed a length of thread bar through to connect all the elements together. These shelves were designed to assemble and break down for easy transportation.
More recently i cut a section of the spray can to fit the recess of a mould, for the creation of a belt buckle which i impregnated in clear resin.
