Before i became entangled in this endeavor of partaking and finishing my b-tech degree, and revisiting an institution with many buried memories, i had my own pre conceived ideas about what i might need to look into.
One of the areas that i initially felt needed to be looked at was Iconic influence on Subcultures. It seemed a far, throw away distance from the idea of recycling, and at the very beginning i couldn't seem to think beyond the ideas that their was more to what i was doing than just emptying out a landfill.
I might have been thinking that if i analyzed the influences behind subcultures, i could perhaps understand the reasons why we are so caught up in our individual cultural influences and why we feel the need to become them.
In saying this i might have been trying to establish the basis for connecting to certain objects that relate to the ways in which we identify ourselves.
Ive been looking at Artists who pay attention to the art of bricolage within their work.
Ive discovered an Artis by the name of Liam Crockard, who among all the artists I have viewed up until this point, really admire his work.
Within his choice of availble materials he seems to use a choice of objects that creates discussion about Western Cultures constructions and the influence of popular culture.
Whats strikingly similar and of interest is his wide range of media, ranging from found object, sculptures, collages as well as video.
It seems to have created a point of reflection to see an artist work so broadly between so many mediums, asking similar questions that my own work might ask.
